Nail Problem Treatment

1. Fungal Nail Infections (Onychomycosis)

Symptoms:

• Thickened, discolored nails (yellow, brown, or white).
• Brittle, crumbly, or ragged nails.
• Distorted nail shape.
• Separation of the nail from the nail bed.

Treatment:

• Topical Antifungal Medications: Over-the-counter or prescription creams and ointments applied directly to the nail.
• Oral Antifungal Medications: Prescription medications like terbinafine or itraconazole that help treat the infection from within.

2. Ingrown Toenails

Symptoms:

• Pain and tenderness along one or both sides of the nail.
• Redness and swelling around the nail.
• Infection of the tissue around the nail.

Treatment:

• Soaking the Foot: Soaking the affected foot in warm, soapy water for 15-20 minutes several times a day.
• Lifting the Nail: Placing cotton or dental floss under the ingrown edge to help it grow above the skin edge.
  

3. Nail Psoriasis

Symptoms:

• Pitting (small dents) on the nail surface.
• Discoloration (yellow-red spots) resembling a drop of oil.
• Thickening of the nails.
• Separation of the nail from the nail bed.

Treatment:

• Topical Treatments: Steroid creams, vitamin D analogs, or retinoid creams applied to the nails.
• Phototherapy: Light therapy using UVB light to reduce symptoms.
